PBIS is a school-wide system for all students and staff that encourages positive ways of addressing behavior. The goal of PBIS is to create safe and effective learning environments, in order to maximize student achievement. Improvement in the school behavioral climate leads to an increase in pro-social behaviors, time on-task, academic performance, school attendance, and the rate of positive interactions for students with school staff. PBIS Highlights
Students are taught to be respectful, responsible, and kind in all settings.
Rules are defined, and displayed on posters throughout the school with emphasis on the following locations: Hallways, Cafeteria, Recess, and Bathrooms.
Teachers and staff define the rules to the students, and continuously model, practice, monitor, and acknowledge appropriate behaviors.
A school wide positive reward system in the form of “golden leaves” is implemented throughout the school year for students displaying positive behaviors.
